Cycling trail Terchová – Žilina

Description:
This trail is suitable for cyclists in a good physical condition or as a whole-day trip for hobby cyclists. The trail should start in Terchová, at the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, from where you should go along the main road in direction to Žilina following the blue marks. After about 200 metres, at LIDL turn right to Horná Tižina. Turn left at a log house on Panská lúka meadow to Horná Tižina and continue to saddle Káčerovci. Now you have a steep ascent in front of you. From Káčerovci you should continue to settlement Skaličanovci at village Lutiše. Turn left to the state road and continue up another hill along an asphalt road. Or you can choose another version: (2): in settlement Káčerovci you should turn left and continue along the forest road to saddle Lutiška without any difficult ascent along a relative contour line. In the saddle Lutiška you should turn right and you should continue along the blue trail to Žilina. If you arrive to Lutiše along the contour line you should turn right and then, at a linden tree, to the left. There is also a guidepost so there should be no problem with finding the direction. You will see a nice bell tower on your way. From Melišovci you should go downhill to Horný Vadičov, where you can stop for some refreshment by hotel Hájnica. From Horný Vadičov you should continue to Kotrčiná Lúčka along a filed road that goes up the hill again. The finish is near. You have to conquer the last hill from Kotrčiná Lúčka to Zástranie and then you go along an asphalt road to Žilina. In Žilina, in local part Budatín, you can stop in the Budatín Castle park. The cycling trail (red mark) along the river Váh will lead you to the Water Reservoir Žilina. Continue around the Water Reservoir through Strečno to Varín. At the beginning of Varín you should turn right to the green trail in direction to Pod Jedľovinou. The trail is ascending a little. Continue to Kurská dolina valley, and then along the red trail around a sheep farm to Dolná Tižina, through Tižina to the farmer’s cooperative. Or you can make the trail shorter by riding directly through the village, around the church to the farmer’s cooperative. From Dolná Tižina you should continue along a gravel road through Belá to Terchová. Keep following the red trail. In this section ascents and descents are switching all the time, as on a swing. At the end of your trip you can have some refreshment in the local restaurants in the centre of Terchová or in Belá (if so, you have to drive to the village, what means additional 1.5 km) or in hotel Bránica that lies on the cycling trail.
