Jánošíkove diery
The fairy-tale gorges and canyons will enchant you instantly. Jánošík’s Holes are located in the Rozsutec National Nature Reserve and consist of three interconnected sections: Lower Holes (Dolné diery), New Holes (Nové diery), and Upper Holes (Horné diery).
They are carved by the Dierový Stream, which flows through them and gave the gorges their unique shape. Within the area, you’ll find more than twenty waterfalls, collectively known as the Waterfalls of the Dierový Stream.
The bizarre rock formations and unique microclimate create a habitat for many fascinating species of plants and animals.
Šútovský Waterfall
The highest waterfall in the Malá Fatra Mountains has a total height of 38 meters. It was formed as a result of the uplift of the mountain range and the subsidence of the Turiec Basin. The waterfall is located on the presumed geological boundary between granites and granodiorites. The underlying bedrock is composed of autometamorphosed granodiorites.
